Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje (1876–1932) was a South African writer, journalist, linguist, and political activist. As one of the founding members of the South African Native National Congress (later the ANC), Plaatje was a tireless advocate for African rights. Fluent in several languages, he worked to preserve and promote Setswana culture and literature. His legacy includes not only his political work but also his contributions to African literature, including the landmark novel Mhudi and his translations of Shakespeare into Setswana.
