Luo Guanzhong (c. 1330 – c. 1400) was a Chinese historical novelist and playwright traditionally credited with Romance of the Three Kingdoms, an epic set in the turbulent final years of the Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. The novel weaves history, legend, and political intrigue into a sweeping narrative of loyalty, betrayal, and the quest for power.

Its memorable characters — including Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Zhuge Liang — have become archetypes in Chinese culture, inspiring countless adaptations in literature, theatre, and film.

Through Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Luo Guanzhong created a foundational work of historical fiction that still shapes storytelling across East Asia.
