Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811 – 1896) was an American author and abolitionist whose novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin galvanized public opinion against slavery. Published in 1852, the book became an international bestseller, credited with helping to fuel the abolitionist movement in the United States.

Stowe wrote more than thirty books — including novels, travel narratives, and collections of essays — addressing social issues from slavery to women’s rights. Her work combined moral conviction with compelling storytelling, reaching audiences across the political spectrum.
