Plato

Plato Collected editions

Plato (c. 427 – c. 347 BCE) was an ancient Greek philosopher, student of Socrates, and teacher of Aristotle, whose dialogues form a cornerstone of Western thought. His works — including The Republic, Phaedrus, and Symposium — explore questions of justice, knowledge, love, and the ideal state, often through dramatic conversations that blend philosophy with literary artistry.

Plato founded the Academy in Athens, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Western world, and his philosophical system continues to influence fields from politics to metaphysics.

Through his dialogues, Plato provided a model for critical inquiry and intellectual exploration that endures to this day.
