Solomon T. Plaatje (1876 – 1932) was a South African intellectual, journalist, and political activist who compiled Sechuana Proverbs (1915). This collection preserves the wisdom and moral instruction embedded in the proverbs of the Tswana people, illustrating their linguistic richness and cultural depth.

Plaatje’s work as a translator, writer, and activist made him a leading voice in the preservation of African languages and traditions during a period of intense colonial pressure.
